Our Foundation
STR Group began in Split in 2003 as a structural engineering consultancy. Marko Babić, a structural engineer, set up the practice to do one thing properly: verify that what others designed would actually stand. For the first decade the work was calculations, load paths, and site reviews. We learned what failed on the Croatian coast first-hand, salt-driven corrosion, karst foundations, the long off-season when a building sits empty and the weather works against it.
Clients who trusted our analysis began asking us to manage the builds we had been checking. So we did. The consultancy grew into a design-build-develop firm without ever leaving the engineering behind. Two decades on, we deliver across Split, Zadar, Šibenik, and Dubrovnik, and the principle from year one still runs the practice: the structure decides what the architecture can promise.

Philosophy
A building outlives the contract that produced it. We work the way we do because the people who commission a project from us, and the people who use it twenty years later, are judging the same thing: whether it holds up. Three principles carry from the first sketch to the final inspection.
We resolve the structure before the finishes are chosen. Soil, seismic load, and span are settled on paper, so the design that reaches site is one we have already proven can be built, and built to last on exposed coastal ground.
Dalmatian stone, lime render, and deep shade were answers to this climate long before they were a style. We keep the logic and update the detailing, pairing local stone with insulated, airtight envelopes that read as Adriatic but perform like new.
One point of contact, a fixed scope, and a schedule you can hold us to. Costs, variations, and slippage are reported as they happen, not at handover, because a client who knows where the project stands can make the call that keeps it moving.

Founded the practice in 2003 and still reviews the structural design on every major project. Marko sets the standard the rest of the firm builds to.
Head of Operations & Development
Runs scheduling, budgets, and permitting across all four regions. Ana is the reason a design on paper becomes a building that opens on time.
Lead Construction Manager
Leads the site crews and the trades who work alongside them. Ivan holds the line on stone-laying, waterproofing, and finish quality where it actually matters, on the scaffold.
Commitment
The houses, hotels, and public spaces we put up share a coastline and a climate that test them every season. We build for the long off-season as much as the summer, so what we deliver still earns its place on the shore decades from now.
